The aim of rhinoplasty is to change the shape of the nose. It is recommended that this operation is not carried out before 17 years of age. Unless the patient is in good health, there is no upper age limit for rhinoplasty. The operation is performed through incisions inside the nose. In some cases, to obtain the desired effect, it is necessary to take additional cuts e.g. resection of nose wings base.

Nose may be reduced or enlarged by changing the scaffold. This is achieved either by removing or adding bony or cartilaginous tissue.

In patients with the problem of nasal patency, together with the change of shape, the correction of nasal patency, commonly known as correction of a deviated septum, is performed.

After the operation, some discomfort connected with swelling and bruising, particularly around the eyes, might be expected. For about 9 days after the surgery, a plaster cast is placed (after the surgery in the cartilage for about 4 days). After its removal, cosmetics can be used. Normal daily activities are severely limited only for a day or two, but it takes weeks before you can bend, lift or exercise again. For about 3 months you should also avoid high temperatures, e.g. solarium and sauna. Unless the patient's occupation requires blood pressure-raising activities, return to work is usually possible after 2-3 weeks. Minor swelling may persist for longer, but in most cases it is invisible to the environment. The final effect of rhinoplasty is achieved not earlier than after 6 months.
