Lip augmentation can be done either by filling lips with synthetic material, primarily hyaluronic acid, or by using your own tissue – dermis or fat.

Treatments carried out using the latter are much higher rated by patients and doctors. However, they may only be performed in the operating theatres, by the use of specialised equipment for the preparation of donated material. Only such action is guaranteed to achieve a good postoperative result.

Lip augmentation surgery using your own tissue requires undergoing basic laboratory tests. The procedure takes about 45 minutes. Postoperative rehabilitation time – relief of swelling and bruising - lasts about 2 weeks. The postoperative effect lasts for several years. However, some authors who have published on the topic believe that the operation brings a lasting effect.

Lip treatment with hyaluronic acid is performed under local anesthesia. In women with a tendency to cold sore, before and after treatment protection in the form of antiviral drugs such as Heviran is needed. After surgery, the lips might be swollen for about 1-2 days. The effect lasts for about 8-12 months.
